Women's Season Ends Against Harcum in Semi-Finals

North Branch, NJ - The RVCC Women's Basketball team's season came to an end with a 64-57 loss to Harcum College on Tuesday night in the Semi-Final round of the Region XIX Tournament. The visiting Bears came out of the gate strong and took a 12 point lead into halftime. In the second half the Bears were able to establish a 19 point lead that was too big for the Lions to come back from. With under three minutes to go the Lions got three attempts from downtown to fall from Kerine Thomas, Julia Fontanillo, and Quanajah Felder to cut the lead to single digits. However, a few timely buckets by Harcum kept the game just out of reach for the Lions. The Lions split with Harcum during the regular season before seeing them in the Playoffs.

The team was led by Lucia Noin's 21 points and 9 rebounds. Fontanillo was the only other Lion in double figures as she finished the night with 15 points. Thomas and Felder each registered 8 points.

While the teams' season comes to an end on a three game losing streak, the successes they've had this year have been many. In their first matchup against Harcum College, the bears were ranked third in the country. The Lions' win over the reigning Region XIX Champions, 65-63, was their first ever victory over a ranked opponent. That win would propel the Lions into the NJCAA Division II National Rankings, at #18, for the program's first ranking in its history. The Lions would go on to defeat Sullivan County College in Loch Sheldrake for the teams' first win against the Generals just a few weeks later. Two days prior to the victory over Sullivan, the visiting Lions knocked off the host Lackawanna Falcons for the teams' first win ever in Scranton. While the first semester was filled with new achievements the second semester had plenty as well. With the home win against Lackawanna the Lions were able to sweep the Falcons for the first time in program history. When the visiting Owls from Union came into Raritan Valley they were ranked #8 in the country and in first place in Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference. The Lions would hand the Owls their only loss in the Region and GSAC to earn their second win over a ranked opponent and first ever share of the Garden State Athletic Conference Championship.

The Lions finished the season at 22-8 overall, 8-2 in Region XIX play, and 5-1 in the Garden State Athletic Conference.
