Lions Sweep Falcons

North Branch, NJ - The Raritan Valley Community College Women's basketball team defeated Lackawanna College at home on Tuesday night by a final score of 71-52. This is the second time this season that the Lions have beaten the Falcons, marking the first regular season sweep for RVCC against Lackawanna in over a decade. The Lions and Falcons both came out of the gate strong and after the first quarter the Lions trailed 17-18. However, to start the second period the Lions uptempo style proved to be too much for the Falcons and they opened the game up with a 32-8 advantage in the frame. After registering just 4 points in the fourth quarter the Lions were still able to hold on to an almost twenty point victory.

Lucia Noin led the offensive charge for the Lions with 24 points. Noin's 6 assists and 11 rebounds were also team highs and marked her ninth double double of the season. Julia Fontanillo was the other starter in double figures as she notched 16 points on the night. Fontanillo had a team high 4 three pointers while continuing her hot shooting streak this semester. She has already made 10 of her attempts from downtown in January, and recorded 12 makes in the first half of the season. The Lions got a much needed spark from Quanajah Felder when she entered the game in the first half. Felder registered 12 points and 8 boards, but made a half of dozen hustle plays that didn't appear on the stat sheet.

The Lions move to 17-2 on the season and travel Thursday to New Rochelle, NY to take on the Monroe College Mustangs at 5:30 PM.
