Lions Cap Historic Week With Win Over Middlesex

Edison, NJ - Just one week after knocking off #3 Harcum College the Lions made history again. This time by earning the first national ranking in the program's history. The Lions finally entered the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Ranking as the #18 team in the country. The Lions followed up the win against Harcum by dominating Passaic County 94-39 and Five Towns College 101-58. On Monday, the Lions hosted the Gators from Hostos Community College and battled the whole game to come away with a 60-42 win. The following night the team traveled to Edison to take on Region XIX opponent Middlesex College. The Lions defense stifled the Colts as the team only scored 9 points in the first quarter and 19 in the first half. The second half was more of the same as the Lions only allowed 15 more points. Raritan Valley would go on to beat Middlesex College 92-34. Lucia Noin led the charge for the Lions with 33 points and 13 rebounds, her third double double of the season. Not to be outdone, Julia Fontanillo notched a double double herself with 11 points and 10 assists. Fontanillo was only 3 boards away from a triple double. Every single Lion scored at least 3 points and grabbed at least 4 rebounds during the dominant win. Kerine Thomas was the only other Lion in double digit scoring, finishing the night with a team high 4 three pointers. Judith Vila and Quanajah Felder each had a shot from downtown and finished with 9 points a piece. Freya Rauschenfels was also close to a double double as she finished second on the team with 9 rebounds and had 8 points. Vega Gil finished the night with 7 points and 7 rebounds and Ja'Nya Mills added 3 points and a season high 8 boards.

In the young season the Lions have already made a lot of history. The team knocked off it's first ranked NJCAA D2 opponent, earned its first ever National Ranking, and is off to the team's best start in history. The team is off for Thanksgiving break and returns to action when they travel to Scranton, PA on 11/28 to take on the Falcons from Lackawanna College.
