Baseball Splits Opening Day DH With Suffolk County

Branchburg, NJ – Raritan Valley Community College baseball opened its 2024 campaign on Sunday. The Lions hosted Suffolk County Community College. Suffolk County got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run. In the bottom of the first an RBI double by freshman Anthony Saniscalchi drove in sophomore Parker Muratore. Freshman Logan Escamilla had a big day at the plate going 3 for 5 hitting three doubles and drove in six runs. The RVCC Lions accumulated 13 hits in the game. Logan Escamilla and Sophomore Jake Knapp each collected three, Anthony Saniscalchi and sophomore Mike Izzo each collected multiple hits as well. The Lions ran wild on the bases, tallying four stolen bases in game one. Sophomore Dylan Seel earned the win for RVCC. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and five runs (one earned) over four innings, while only walking one. Sophomore Schuyler Knutsen and freshman Nick Bentz both appeared in relief with Bentz earning a multi-inning save.

The Lions dropped the back end of the double-header 13-2. The Suffolk County Sharks collected ten hits and ten walks in the game. Suffolk's pitcher, Jack Turner, pitched a complete game striking out twelve batters along the way. Mike Izzo, freshman Nick Leon and freshman Tyler Giordano each collected a hit. Leon and Muratore each drove in a run.

The Lions are back in action this Wednesday, March 6th when they visit Union County College at 4pm. The game will be at Kean University.
