Lions Win Second Straight In Five Sets

North Branch, NJ – Just one night after RVCC beat Bergen Community College in a five-set match, they found themselves back in another five-set game against Harrisburg Area Community College on Saturday afternoon. After dropping the first set 25-14, the Lions would go on to win the next two, only to drop the 4th and go into their second 5thset game of the season. 

With the score tied 18-18 in the fourth set the Hawks from Harrisburg would win ten straight points. The first 7 points helped them win the 4th set to even the match at 2-2, and then the next 3 points would put them up 3-0 against the Lions in the fifth set. Having battled back all night long the Lions would not let the Hawks run away with the game without a fight. The Lions would climb all the way back to take an 8-4 lead before switching sides midway through the 5th set. RVCC would go on to win the 5th set 15-9 to beat the Hawks for the first time since the 2021 season. 

Kelly Delaney was great again for the Lions as the sophomore led the team with 24 total kills. She also recorded her 8thdouble double of the season with 10 digs. Helping on the offensive end was Madison Cobb with 9 kills and setter Reagan Mooney with a season high 7 kills. Mooney also had a season high of 37 assists on the night. Sona Petrusova and Rachel Hatto helped the Lions' defense tremendously with 17 and 9 digs respectively. Cobb also led the Lions up front with 3 solo blocks. Alanna Da Cunha, Skylee Ohler, and Mooney each had a solo block as well. 

The Lions host the Roadrunners from RCSJ-Gloucester on Monday at 7 PM on Sophomore Night.
