Lions Defeat Jersey Blues

Lincroft, NJ – RVCC traveled to Monmouth County on Monday night to take on the Jersey Blues from Brookdale Community College. After a tight first set that saw the Lions win 25-22, RVCC would go on to control the rest of the match winning the next two sets 25-13 and 25-9.

Kelly Delaney continues to rack up the double doubles as she finished with 10 digs and a team high 18 kills. The 18 kills match her season high while it was her fourth double double of the season. Delaney was the only Lion in double figures for kills, but Madison Cobb was right behind her with 7. Rachel Hatto and Sona Petrusova reached double digits in digs as Hatto led the team with 17 and Petrusova contributed 15. Reagan Mooney recorded over 20 assists again, finishing with 24. The Lions' front line was very tough for the hitters of Brookdale to maneuver around, mostly because of Middle Blocker Alanna Da Cunha. Da Cunha finished with a team high 3 solo blocks and 2 block assists. Mooney and Cobb also registered 2 block assists.

The Lions got some much-needed help from some new faces on Monday night. Zakhye Nelson had a huge solo block as well as a block assist to help bolster the Lions defense. Mariana Gonzalez notched 2 digs and 1 assist to help contribute in a variety of ways. Defensive Specialist, Anniyah Cox, was solid with 2 digs and 1 service ace.

RVCC has two days between games until they travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Spartans from Northampton Community College. The Spartans and Lions are both currently undefeated in Region XIX play. The game is scheduled for a 6 PM start time.
