Lions Sweep Colts

North Branch, NJ – The women's volleyball team hosted the Colts from Middlesex College on Monday night in a Region XIX and GSAC matchup. The Lions went on to defeat the Colts 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-13. The team improved to 10-2 on the season.

RVCC was led by sophomore outside hitter Kelly Delaney who turned in her second double double of the season. Delaney finished with team highs in kills (13), digs (16), and aces (4). Delaney is currently ranked #2 in the entire country with 56 total aces on the season, 5 behind the NJCAA Division III leader. Delaney's serve helped the Lions take a commanding 15-3 lead in that first set. A couple of unforced errors with the score at 23-17 in the second set allowed Middlesex to keep the game close. However, Lions eventually closed it out 25-21 and came out strong to start the third set. Through the first 15 points of the game the Lions were up 14-1.

Right behind Delaney in kills were freshmen Madison Cobb with 8 and Danna Gaitan with 5 on the night. The size of RVCC gave Middlesex's hitters problems all night as Gaitan and Alanna Da Cunha finished with a block assist each and Skylee Ohler had a solo block of her own. The Lions' offense was led once again by Reagan Mooney. Mooney had 26 assists to finish the night, her 7th time in 8 attempts registering more than 20 assists. Delaney got a lot of help in the back row on Monday night from Sona Petrusova who finished with 10 digs, and Rachel Hatto who notched 9.

The Lions return to action Wednesday night as they take on the Owls from Union County College at 7 PM in RVCC's gymnasium.
