Lions Finish Monroe Invitational 2-2

New Rochelle, NY – For the second straight day the Lions finished 1-1 at the Monroe College Volleyball Invitational. The team started off the day with a 3-0 against Nassau Community College and followed it up with a 0-3 loss to the Monroe College Express. In the first game freshman Madison Cobb was dominant on the offensive end as she finished with a team high 11 kills. Cobb was very efficient as she hit .409 in the first game and had one solo block as well. Kelly Delaney, Reagan Mooney, and Danna Gaitan all had 4 kills and sophomore Alanna Da Cunha rounded out the offense with 1 kill of her own. Freshman Anniyah Cox turned in a very solid defensive performance, leading the team with 20 digs. The Plainfield High School alum has been a very versatile player for the Lions as she's played every position in the back row for the team in their first 4 games. The Lions were a much bigger and much faster team and were able to assert their dominance from the beginning, with only the last set being closely contested. Kelly Delaney's serving was just too much for the Lions from Nassau as she aced them 9 times on the day. Skylee Ohler once again paced the Lions offense with 17 assists.

In the second game of the day the Lions faced the reigning Region XV Champions from The Bronx, the Monroe College Express. With the Lions up 18-13 in the first set, they didn't look like a team that had four new starters and had only played 3 games together. As the Monroe Express slowly crept back into the game and took the first set 25-21 the inexperience of the Lions started to show. Unfortunately, the team was back in the same exact spot in the second set, up 19-14, only to see the first set repeat itself ending with the same 25-21 loss. The Lions would go on to lose 0-3 to finish the Invitational at 2-2 for the second consecutive season.

The team has an eight-day break until they travel to the County College of Morris to take on the Titans at 6 PM on August 28th.
