Lions Start Season 1-1 At Monroe Invitational

New Rochelle, NY - The Raritan Valley Women's Volleyball team started their season off at the Monroe College Volleyball Invitational on Friday. The Lions played two games on Friday, defeating fellow Region XIX and GSAC opponent Atlantic Cape, 3-0, and then fell to the host Monroe Mustangs 0-3. In the first game against Atlantic Cape, Kelly Delaney and Reagan Mooney, both sophomore outside hitters, registered 9 kills each to lead the team. Making her college debut was freshman Madison Cobb from Delaware Valley Regional High School, who notched 8 kills to go along with 4 service aces. Delaney led the team with 5 aces while sophomore Libero, Rachel Hatto, finished right behind her with 4 aces of her own. Hatto had a team high 14 digs to bolster the defense while another Delaware Valley grad, Skylee Ohler, paced the team's offense with 27 assists. Freshman outside Danna Gaitan chipped in 4 kills of her own to help the Lions start the day 1-0.

The next match proved to be too much for the Lions as they were overpowered by Monroe in straight sets. The Lions travel back to New Rochelle for 2 games tomorrow as they take on the Lions from Nassau first at 11:00 A.M. and then the Monroe Express at 3:00 P.M.
