Volleyball Tops Brookdale

Tinton Falls, NJ - The RVCC Women's Volleyball team beat Brookdale Community College by a final score of 3-1 on Thursday night. The Lions dropped the first set 23-25, but bounced back to win the next three in a row by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-19.

The Lions got off to a slow start, but almost took the first set as it was tied up 23-23 before the Jersey Blues notched two points in a row for their only set win. Losing the first set was the motivation the Lions needed to get going as they came out strong in the second set. Sophomore Setter, Tess Rogovin, started the set off with 3 of her team high 5 service aces on the night to give RVCC a 7-1 cushion. The Lions pounced on the Blues again early in the third set before winning a much closer fourth set.

Freshman, Hannah Chiswick, tallied 11 kills on the night and four service aces. Chiswick leads the team with nearly 3 kills per set, this was her fourth game in a row with double digit kills. Freshman, Tayler Tarabokija, added 7 kills of her own, while Bryahna Shaw, Zaloni Johnson, and Karina Arias each helped the offense with 4, 2, and 2 kills respectively. Freshman, Molly Vander Horn held the Lions down defensively with 7 digs and 14 receive attempts. The Piscataway High School product was also great from the Service Line finishing with 4 aces. The Lions offense was quarterbacked by Tess Rogovin who dished out 24 assists on the night. This is Rogovin's highest assist total on the season, she's currently averaging close to 5 asissts/set this season.

The Lions have their first Garden State Athletic Conference Match of the season this Saturday as they host Middlesex County College at 12 P.M. The team currently sits at 6-2 on the year.
