Lions Defeat Luzerne in Straight Sets

Nanticoke, PA - The Lions Volleyball squad got back to their winning ways Thursday night as they defeated Luzerne County College by a final score of 3-0. The Lions suffered their second loss of the season just a night earlier at the hands of Harcum College, 3-1. While two nights of long bus rides in a row isn't ideal, the Lions made no excuses and handled their business on the court. They got off to a slow start only winning the first set, 25-22. From there the Lions were able to play more comfortably winning the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-13.

The Middle Blockers for the Lions were too much to handle for Luzerne as Freshman, Bryahna Shaw had a team high 11 kills and Sophomore, Danielle Burnejko finished with 6. Playing their third game in a row the Lions were looking to switch some things up a bit and had their starting Libero, Andrea Chavez, play setter in the first frame. Chavez didn't disappoint as she had 6 assists in the first set, but switched back to her natural position for the final two sets. When starting setter Tess Rogovin came in during the second set she led the way for the Lions with 10 assists on the night. Sophomore, Chandra Ramlogan led the Lions defensive effort with 4 digs. The Lions once again earned plenty of points with their serve as Danielle Burnejko and Andrea Chavez each had 4 service aces and Anais Duarte had 3 of her own. Duarte, a Freshman OH/DS from Bridgewater Raritan High School, is currently ranked 6th in the nation with 1.53 SA(service aces)/set.

The Lions have a rare night off Friday, but return to action Saturday September 22nd. The team will host the Union County College Owls for a 12 PM start time.
