RVCC Volleyball Tops Bergen in Three, Improves to 5-0

North Branch, NJ-- The RVCC women's volleyball team defeated a tough Bergen Community College team Tuesday night in three sets. In the first set, the Lions trailed Bergen 22-17, however mounted a rally. With the scored tied up at 23-23, sophomore middle hitter Mekayla Dela Cruz had a big kill to give the Lions the slim lead. The next play, she came up with a block to grab the set one win. 

In a back and forth second set, the score was locked up at 24-24 and RVCC was able to come up with two big points. The Lions then trailed 18-13 when they mounted yet another comeback. With a 22-21 lead, sophomore setter Ashley Hunt spiked one down to get the Lions the two point advantage. Once again Dela Cruz sealed the deal with a block. 

Dela Cruz led the way for the Lions as she finished with 13 kills, four service aces, and eight big blocks. Freshman outside hitter Chandra Ramlogan tallied 10 kills and seven digs. Sophomore setter Ashley Hunt ran the offense efficiently as she racked up 31 assists, and sophomore libero Hannah Eisenstein was strong on the defensive end as she totaled 36 digs.

With the win the Lions improved their record to 5-0 on the season, including 5-0 in Region XIX play and 4-0 in Garden State Athletic Conference play. Next up is a road game at Rowan College at Gloucester County on Thursday, September 14th at 6:00pm.
