Volleyball Defeats RCGC For First Win

North Branch, NJ-- The RVCC women's volleyball team won it's first match on Tuesday against Rowan College at Gloucester College. They controlled the first set and won by a sizeable margin of 25-8. In the second set, they won 25-16. Rowan College at Gloucester County did not give up and battled in the final set, yet the Lions outlasted them in a 26-24 thriller.

Freshman outside hitter Taylor Moskal led the team in kills with eight. Moskal also added four service aces. Freshman opposite hitter Brooke Scheier also was an offensive threat as she had seven kills, and she helped out on defense with seven digs. Another efficient performance was put forth from freshman setter Jelitza Rodriguez, as she tallied 14 assists. Rodriguez also had 11 service aces. Freshman libero Hannah Eisenstien racked up 11 digs.

This match marks the first victory for the RVCC women's volleyball program. Coach Phil Herro is proud of his team, saying "Going into the game we had a lot of positive momentum, as we won our first set on Saturday and the previous two matches the girls kept getting better and I could see the improvement. The communication was getting better and the girls starting playing more as a team. We had a good practice Monday night and had a pretty good gameplan, the girls executed and I could not be more proud of them. We're young as we have four freshman who start and a couple new players to volleyball, and I think as the season progresses we'll have more opportunities to get these wins that were kind of escaping us last year because we did not have the experience to completely play together."

With the win the Lions are now 1-3 on the season. Next up is an away game Thursday, September 15th at Valley Forge Military Academy starting at 7pm.
