Olivia Sims Earns All-American Honors

Charlotte, NC - Sophomore Middle Blocker Olivia Sims has been named a 2022 NJCAA Division III Second Team All-American. Sims led the Lions this year in kills with 321 and blocks with 88 total. Sims is RVCC's all time leader in both kills and total blocks as she finishes her career with 578 kills and 143 blocks. During her two years at Raritan Valley Sims helped lead the Lions to two Garden State Athletic Conference Championships, one Region XIX/North Atlantic Disctrict A Championship, and a National Tournament appearance. She was named First Team All-Region in each of her two seasons as well as First Team All Garden State Athletic Conference while earning GSAC Player of the Year honors as a sophomore. Sims' teams went 52-10 in her two seasons at RVCC, another record for RVCC Volleyball. RVCC has now had an All-America Award winner in each of the past three seasons. Coach Phil Herro had this to say about Sims, "Olivia is a special athlete. As a freshman she was dominant, and she just kept getting better and progressing during her sophomore season. She had the ability to take over games and shut down the opposing teams' best players. We feel truly honored to have had Liv with us for these two seasons and can't wait to see what she does at the next level." Herro continued, "Liv's individual success is great, but she understands that all her accomplishments are a by-product of a really strong surrounding group. She played with Izabela Bar, who like Liv has been the most successful player at her position in RVCC history, and a group of four players that had three years of experience. That experience coupled with Olivia's strong competitive nature, athleticism, and desire to win helped her earn the awards she has. As wondeful a player as Liv is she is just as great a person and teammate. She's a strong leader, gives and earns respect from her teammates, and has the ability to go from the nicest kid in the room to an absolute menace on the court in a split second. Her character and personality have made her a joy to coach and be around."

Congratulations Olivia on a wonderful year and an amazing career as a Lion!
