Lions Outlast Tigers In 5 Set Thriller

Manhattan, NY - Raritan Valley women's volleyball team travelled to NYC on Thursday night to take on the Tigers of the Fashion Institute of Technology. RVCC got off to a slow start, but managed to pull ahead to win the opening set convincingly, 25-15. After being down 24-15 in the second set the Lions' huge comeback would eventually fall short as they would lose that set 24-26. The same team from the first set showed up again in the next set as the Lions posted their most dominant stanza of the night, winning the third 25-12. After dropping another close one, 24-26, in the fourth, the team prepared for their first five set match of the season. After switching sides with the Lions up 8-4 their energy and determination proved too much for the Tigers to overcome as they closed it out 15-9. The Lions were led by Olivia Sims with 13 kills and Brittany Jensen with 12. Alanna Da Cunha contributed 9 from the middle, while Jaiden English and Kelly Delaney controlled the pins for the team adding 8 and 7 kills respectively. Delane was also second on the team with 13 digs, while Bri Rojas gathered up a team high 16. Setter Izabela Bar set her season high with 42 assists on the night to lead the teams' offense.

The Lions are now 13-4 and will host Bergen Community College and Montgomery County Community College in a tri-match this Saturday at home starting at 11 AM.
