Volleyball Finishes Week 2-0

Nanticoke, PA - The RVCC Lions traveled to Luzerne County Community College on Thursday, October 17th to take on the Trailblazers in a Region XIX matchup. The Lions were able to win in straight sets by final scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-18.

The Lions were paced on the offensive end by Katie Mancini's 10 assists and 8 service aces. Mancini did an excellent job of spreading the ball around as 9 separte players registered kills on the night. Hannah Chiswick, Zaloni Johnson, and Bryahna Shaw led the team with 4 kills a piece. Freshman middle back Nallelys Clemente put in a great defensive effort for the Lions registering 4 digs with 2 service receptions on the night. Xaviera Wilson was the only player, aside from the setters, two register a kill and an assist on the night as she finished with 2 kills and 1 assist. 

On Tuesday, October 15th the Lions defeated the County College of Morris in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, and 25-12. CCM came into the game at 15-1 and atop the Region XIX Division II standings, but it didn't take long for the Lions to pounce on the Titans. After a somewhat early back and forth in the first set the Lions came out roaring in the second. At one point RVCC held a 12-2 lead and then pushed it to 19-7 to take their biggest lead of the night. Tess Rogovin tallied 28 asissts on the night dishing the ball to all of her hitters. Chiswick lead the way with 12 kills, Shaw had 10, Johnson had 6, Tayler Tarabokija finished with 6 and Karina Arias had 1. Andrea Chavez and Molly Vander Horn both played great defense on the night registering 11 and 5 digs respectively. The Lions were again able to capitalize from the service line as they totaled 13 aces on the night. Rosemarie Perna, Chavez, and Chiswick all had 3, Anais Duarte had 2, and Tess Rogovin and Zaloni Johnson each had 1 service ace on the night. 

With the two wins the Lions improved to 16-4 on the year and are currently tied for second place in the Region XIX playoff picture. RVCC returns to action next Tuesday night as they host the Jersey Blues from Brookdale Community College for a 7 P.M. start time.
