Women's Soccer Downs Lehigh Carbon in Opener

North Branch, NJ-- The RVCC women's soccer team defeated Lehigh Carbon Community College Saturday in the season opener by a final score of 4-1.

The Lions got on the board in the seventh minute when freshman defender Leanne Derosa scored on a penalty kick. The Lions converted on another penalty kick in the 20th minute as sophomore midfielder Mariana Munoz found the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Munoz had a successful attack up the right side and sent a terrific cross pass that found freshman midfielder Summer Sheppard who sent it in to extend the RVCC lead to 3-0. Five minutes later freshman defender Johanna Sailema set up Munoz inside the box with a nice find and Munoz scored to make it 4-0. The Lions were able to control the second half to hold onto the victory. Freshman defender Brianna Araque came up big on the defensive end as she stopped several Lehigh attacks.

Next up for the Lions is a home game against Union County College on Thursday, September 14th at 3:30pm.
