Lions Upset Harcum

North Branch, NJ - The RVCC Women's Basketball Team made history on Tuesday night as they toppled #3 Ranked Harcum College. The win is the biggest in the program's history, and RVCC's first over a ranked opponent. The team was led offensively by sophomores Lucia Noin and Vega Gil. Noin had team highs in both points and rebounds with 24 and 13 respectively. Gil added 19 points of her own as the only other Lion in double digits in the scoring column. Freshman Julia Fontanillo controlled the pace of the game and orchestrated the offense with a season high 10 assists.

RVCC raced out to a 14-11 lead to close out the first quarter. The team would go into halftime down 1, 23-24. A three pointer by Freya Rauschenfels to open the second half put RVCC up by 2, and they never trailed again. In that third quarter, the team really created some space from Harcum with an 8-0 run. Back to back threes by Judith Vila and Noin, followed by a layup from Vila assisted by Fontanillo put the Lions up 49-35 after three. The Harcum Bears made a bit of a run to open the fourth quarter, but back to back threes from Kerine Thomas had the Lions up 13 with over 5 minutes to play. With two minutes and twenty seconds to go the Lions were up 10, only to see that lead shrink all the way to 0 with under 45 seconds to play. The most timely of Noin's buckets came at the end of the game when she caught the ball with 30 seconds in the high post. A strong drive to the left and finish put the Lions up 2 with under 25 seconds to go. Harcum had one last chance with 2 seconds to go, but Rauschenfels stole the ball to end the game.

RVCC moves to 2-0 on the season with the historic win. The team will travel to Passaic County College for a game Thursday at 5 PM
