Akinrefon and Allah Named All-Region

North Branch, NJ - On Thursday, March 5th Region XIX announced it's All-Region Award Winners. Sophomores Morenike Akinrefon and Precious Allah got selected to the First and Second Teams, respectively, as voted by the coaches of Region XIX.

Allah is not new to the All-Region Team as she was voted as a Second Team All-Region XIX performer last year for her freshman campaign. This season Allah averaged 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. She finished top 10 in assists per game in all of NJCAA D2 Women's Basketball. She was the top rebounding guard on the team and registered a triple double in a win over Brookdale Community College.

Akinrefon was second on the team in scoring at 14 points per game, first in rebounds at 7.8 per game, first in field goal percentage at 52%, and lead the team in ball control per forty minutes as she only averaged 1.3 turnovers per game. On a team of only six players, she was fourth in shots attempted per game, and only took half a shot more per game than her teammate in fifth place. This is Mo's first recognition to the All-Region Team and she is the first women's player to be named to the First Team All-Region XIX Team since Ashley Hunt in 2018.

"To see these two get individual recognition for their hard work is really something special" Coach Phil Herro stated and then continued about his Sophomore stars. "Precious was a Second Team All-Region performer last year and we expected that of her again, and she delivered. Her ability and talent take her places that others just can't go. When we saw that Mo was named to the First Team, Coach Jibs and I were ecstatic. We felt that we could have gotten Mo involved a bit more earlier in her career here and knew that she was a very talented player. She is able to make the hardest shots look easy, and her game is often overlooked and underrated because you just get so used to watching her make so many difficult shots. The fact that she was able to earn this award proves that every other coach saw what we saw. We couldn't be happier for these two wonderful young ladies"

The Lions finished the season 19-11 and fell to Lackawanna College in the Region XIX Semi-Finals.
