De Leon and McGrath Lead Charge in Victory Over Ulster

Stone Ridge, NY - The RVCC Women's Basketball team traveled on Saturday, February 1st to take on the Senators of SUNY Ulster in a non-region matchup of Division II teams. The Senators compete in Region XV and the Lions are members of Region XIX. The Senators made the first basket of the game and then held a 5-3 lead after a made three pointer early in the first quarter. However, the Lions would take the lead on the next possession and the Senators were never able to come close again. 

Sophomore guard, Dyliany De Leon, set her RVCC career high with 37 points. De Leon hit 5 three pointers, pulled down 8 rebounds, and dished out 5 assists. Her 37 point outburst are the most points scored by a Lion since Ashley Hunt also notched 37 in a game against Burlington County College two seasons ago. Fellow Sophomore, Ali McGrath, also knocked down 5 three-pointers on the day en route to 25 points. McGrath is currently leading the team with 16.6 points per game. 

Every member of the Lions saw their name in the scoring column as Precious Allah and Morenike Akinrefon finished with 14 a piece, while Juliett Schott and Evelyn Nunez each chipped in 6. 

The Lions are now 15-8 on the season and will host Bergen County Community College this Thursday at 5 PM.
