Lions Clinch Playoff Birth With Win Over Morris

North Branch, NJ - On a night the team dedicated to Kobe, Gigi, and the other victims of the helicopter crash in Southern California the Lions played with a Mamba Mentality that would have made Kobe proud. The Lions took the floor in purple warmups with gold, black, and white writing showing their appreciation and respect for the Lakers' Legend. Sophomore point guard Precious Allah who typically wears #22, instead took the floor in a #24 jersey.

Inspired by the gold band, with the initials "KB" on their left chest, the Lions came out focused and ready for battle. They were locked in defensively only allowing Morris to score 15 points in the first quarter and 26 total at halftime. Sophomore, Ali McGrath almost kept pace with the Titans herself as she scored 19 of her team high 24 in the first half. McGrath connected on 5 of 7 of her attempts from downtown and registered a team high 6 steals on the night. Three Lions turned in double digit performances as Precious Allah finished with 10 points and 10 boards, Juliet Schott finished with 13 points and 11 boards, and Morenike Akinrefon finished with 20 points and 12 boards. In the previous game against Bucks County Allah registered a triple double. Dyliany De Leon was third leading scorer on the night as she finished with 16 points. The Lions controlled the glass from the start to the finish and finished with 53 total rebounds. Every member of the team gathered at least 4 rebounds as Evelyn Nunez had 4, while De Leon and McGrath had 6.

With the win the Lions are now 14-7 on the year and have clinched a spot in the Region XIX Playoffs for the third year in a row. RVCC will look to continue their winning ways as they head to Monroe College on Thursday 1/30 for a 6:00 P.M. tip off.
