Women's Basketball Splits Sullivan Tip Off Tournament

Loch Sheldrake, NY - On Saturday November 2nd the RVCC Women's Basketball team traveled to Sullivan County Community College to participate in the Generals' tip off tournament. The Lions took on the Vikings of SUNY Westchester at 12 Noon.

RVCC got off to a strong start and led 16-9 after the first quarter. The Lions held the Vikings to nine points again in the second quarter as the halftime score saw the Lions up 33-18. RVCC poured it on in the second half as they scored 36 points in the third quarter and 30 points in the fourth quarter to win 99-55. Two Lions turned in double doubles on the night as Precious Allah finished with 25 points and 13 boards and Freshman, Eumani Hollins, finished with 25 points and a team high 15 rebounds. Alison McGrath and Dyliany De Leon also ended the night in double figures as they scored 19 and 13 points respectively. Morenike Akinrefon was huge on the glass as she finished with 11 boards to go with her 9 points. Zinnia Canty and Christina Crowe each finished with 4 points.

On Sunday the Lions returned to take on the host team. The Generals from Sullivan finished, in what was a 6 point game in the third quarter, with a 91-67 win. The Lions inability to rebound and convert their free throws is what ultimately cost them the game.

The Lions now sit at 1-1 on the season and open up Region XIX and conference play this Thursday as they travel to take on the Barons of Burlington County for a 5 PM tip off.
