Lions Open Up Second Semester With Win Over Orange County

 

Middletown, NY – The Raritan Valley Women's Basketball team started their second semester with a road tilt against the Colts from Orange County Community College on Saturday, January 12th. The Lions certainly had a little bit of rust from the long layoff, but managed to pull off a 63-50 victory to start the second semester on the right foot.

 

The game was back and forth all day long as the Lions were only up three midway through the fourth quarter. However, with the deep ball threat the Lions possess they were able to blow open the lead on back-to-back three pointers from Adrienne Amey and Olivia Nilsen. Amey finished the day with 15 points, 2 assists, and 3 boards while Nilsen had a team high 22 points to compliment her 2 steals and 2 boards. The offense was made possible by the great defensive effort put forward by the team, especially Sonia Guiste. The Freshman from South River had 3 of her 4 steals in the final frame, pulled down 4 boards, and knocked down three of her four free throw attempts to help the Lions seal the deal. In one of her less dominating offensive performances in the points column, Freshman PG Precious Allah, proved how impactful she can be on the game in so many other facets. At only 5'3" Allah tied Forward Moira Phillips on the day with 8 rebounds, she also had team highs in assists (10) and steals (5). This was Allah's second double-digit assist output on the season, 16th consecutive game with at least 1 dime, and the 11th time she has recorded at least 4 or more assists.

 

The Lions will travel to Community College of Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 15th for a 5 PM tip off. The Lions beat CCP 88-66 in the first semester.
