Lions Finish Semester With Win Over HACC

North Branch, NJ – The RVCC Women's Basketball team closed out their first semester on a high note with a win over Harrisburg Area Community College. The Hawks from Harrisburg took an early 2-0 lead, but the Lions tied the game on the next possession with a Morenike Akinrefon jumper off an assist from Precious Allah. The Lions would again give up another lead 4-2 only to come down and take the lead for good with an Adrienne Amey three pointer off another Allah assist. The Lions finished out the first quarter 30-6 and the first half 49-11 to win by a final score of 79-36.

Sophomore Adrienne Amey has been on a tear as of late and continued her hot streak against the Hawks. The Belvidere High School product continues to do it all for the Lions every single night. Amey dropped 10 points, pulled down 5 boards, dished out 5 assists, and snatched a team high 4 steals. Amey's 3.1 steals per game have her ranked in the top 50 in the entire NJCAA. To close out the first semester Amey has scored in double figures in 10 of the Lions 15 games and is shooting a blistering split of 52% from the field, 44% from downtown, and 83% from the charity stripe. Two other Lions finished in double figures on the night as Olivia Nilsen had a team high 15 points and Alison McGrath chipped in 11. Nilsen currently leads the team with 16 points per game while McGrath is averaging 9 ppg and is the leading scorer off the bench. Dyliany De Leon and Claudia Edralin each finished with 9 points on the night while Morenike Akinrefon and Rachel Knappenberger finished with 8 apiece. Knappenberger managed to pull down 7 boards on the night which was second to Lauren Armellino and Sonia Guiste who each had 8 rebounds.

The win puts the Lions at 11-4 to start their winter break. RVCC will begin the second half of their season on January 12th as they travel up to Orange County Community College for a 12 PM tip off. RVCC currently sits at 5th in Region XIX and 3rd in the Garden State Athletic Conference.
