North Branch, NJ – The RVCC Women's Basketball team finished off a three game week this Saturday going 2-1. The Lions currently sit at 8-2 on the year.
The Lions traveled down to Jenkintown, PA on Tuesday to take on Manor College. The Lions outmatched the Blue Jays from the start and never trailed in the contest. Four Lions scored in double figures with Olivia Nilsen leading the way with 20 points. Adrienne Amey, Morenike Akinrefon, and Precious Allah each contributed 12 points apiece on the night. Sophomore forward, Moira Phillips, controlled the glass for the Lions as she led the team with 11 boards. Freshman Dyliany De Leon contributed 9 points off the bench. RVCC won 79-44.
Luzerne County College took the trip from Nanticoke to North Branch on Thursday night as the Lions hosted the Trailblazers. Again, the Lions possessed too much firepower as they ended up beating Luzerne, 82-53. Leading the way for the Lions was Sophomore, Adrienne Amey, who finished the night with 16 points and 5 assists. Morenike Akinrefon and Ali McGrath each chipped in with 12 points and Olivia Nilsen had 11 on the night. It was a great night all around for the Lions as every one of their 12 players contributed at least 1 point and at least 1 rebound.
On Saturday, December 1st the Lions hosted the Barons from Rowan College at Burlington County. The visiting Barons came out scorching and made 8 three point shots in the first half. Still the Lions were within striking distance only down 34-30 at halftime. Up 63-53 with under 6 minutes to play the Lions couldn't manage to hang onto the lead and were down four with under twenty seconds to play. Freshman, Precious Allah, made a three to pull the Lions within 1 with 13 seconds remaining. A Lions foul sent the Barons to the line where they converted just 1 of 2 attempts. The Lions inbounded the ball and Allah went the full length of the court, drawing the shooting foul with just under two seconds to play down 2. The Neptune native proved yet again she's built for big moments, as she calmly knocked down both free throws to send the game to overtime. Even with an eight point lead the Lions couldn't hold off the Barons and lost 82-78. Allah had a magnificent performance on the night as she registered team highs in every category. She finished the night with 23 points, 7 steals, 7 dimes, and 8 rebounds. Amey was the second leading scorer, as she had a wonderful night as well, finishing with 21 points. The Lions got huge help from the bench as Freshmen Ali McGrath, Sonia Guiste, and Khayla Flemmings scored 10, 9, and 6 points respectively.
The Lions will look to bounce back as they host County College of Morris this Tuesday, December 4th at 5 PM.
