Lions Take Down Essex County College

Newark, NJ – The RVCC Women's Basketball team defeated Essex County College on Tuesday, November 13th by a final score of 97-52. The Lions improve to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in Region XIX play.

The Lions came out of the gate strong with Freshman, Precious Allah, and Sophomore, Adrienne Amey, leading the attack offensively. RVCC was able to turn their defensive prowess into easy transition points all night long. Seven Lions scored in double figures on the night, with Allah leading the way with 16 points. Three other starters, Amey (12), Morenike Akinrefon (10), and Olivia Nilsen (10) all contributed double figures to the Lions scoring total. As has been the case all season long, the Lions got great support from the bench. Freshman, Ali McGrath, led the way with 13 points, while fellow Freshman, Dyliany De Leon added 11, and Sophomore, Rachel Knappenberger contributed 10 of her own. Freshman, Khayla Flemmings, wasn't far behind as she chipped in 8 points on the night. The Lions were in control of the glass all night as four players pulled down 5 boards including, Moira Phillips, Aknirefon, Sonia Guiste, and Lauren Armellino. Guiste and De Leon lead the way for the Lions defensively as they stole the ball from the Wolverines 4 and 6 times respectively.

RVCC will look to push their winning streak to 4 games as they host SUNY Uslter this Saturday at 12:00 PM.
