Lions Down CCP In Home Opener

North Branch, NJ – The RVCC Women's Basketball team had their first home game of the season Thursday night with a win over Community College of Philadelphia. The Lions came out strong from the gate with a 13-0 lead and never looked back as they didn't trail all game long. The Lions went into the half up 44-18 and couldn't manage to keep up the same intensity for the final 20 minutes. The scrappy CCP team gave it all they had and cut the Lions lead to just 7 points with less than 8 minutes to play. However, the Lions picked up the intensity and found a way to come out on top with an 88-66 victory.

Leading the way for the Lions was Sophomore, Olivia Nilsen, who connected on six three-point attempts to finish with 26 points on the night. Nilsen also pulled in 8 boards and dished out 6 assists. Fellow Sophomore, Adrienne Amey, set her RVCC career high with 19 points to go along with her 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Amey wasn't the only Lion stuffing the stat sheet last night as Freshman Guard, Precious Allah, finished 1 rebound shy of a triple double with 11 points, 10 dimes, and 9 boards. Freshman Forward, Morenike Akinrefon, was huge for the Lions inside as she finished with 11 points and fellow big man Moira Phillips asserted her dominance inside with 8 boards. The Lions have been relying on their bench all season for big minutes and production and they certainly got it against CCP. Freshmen Guards, Dyliany De Leon and Ali McGrath, contributed 6 and 9 points respectively.

The Lions open up Region XIX play this weekend as they travel to Bucks County Community College for a 12 P.M. tip off this Saturday.
