Women's Basketball Win Over Valley Forge

North Branch, NJ - On Saturday, December 2nd the RVCC Women's Basketball team defeated Valley Forge Military College by a final score of 56-51. Both teams got off to a slow start with Valley Forge taking the early lead 16-15 after the end of the first. The second quarter was more of the same as neither team was able to put the ball in the basket consistently. With 3 seconds on the clock and the score tied at 21 a piece Freshman Adrienne Amey made a hard drive to the bucket to give the Lions a two point halftime lead.

While the Lions continued to struggle offensively in the third quarter their counterparts seemed to find a rhythm taking a six point lead into the fourth. Within the first minute of the fourth stanza the Lions gave up an and-one and faced their biggest deficit of the night down 42-33. After a few great hustle plays by Freshman Lauren Armellino and the hot hand of Sophomore guard Ashley Hunt the Lions stormed back to take the lead only two minutes later and never looked back. Ashley sparked the offense on an 18-2 run during the fourth quarter connecting on four of her game high five three pointers. Hunt finished the game with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Moira Phillips turned in her first double double of the year snatching 11 rebounds to go along with her 10 points. Up only three points the Freshman forward iced the game for the Lions sinking two clutch free throws with thirty seconds remaining. Hunt and Phillips were the only Lions in double figures, but they got a lot of help from the rest of the team as nine different players scored. Freshman Forward Nyah Morales had 7 rebounds and four points and fellow Freshman Forward Claudia Edralin chipped in with 5 rebounds and 4 points.

With the win the Lions are now 6-1 on the season. Next up for the Lions is an away game vs. Delaware Technical Community College on Tuesday, December 5th @ 5:00 PM.
