Lions Grind Out Win At Sussex

Newton, NJ-- The RVCC women's basketball team defeated Sussex County Community College Tuesday night by a final score of 63-56. It was a battle all game, as there were nine ties and eleven lead changes. The Lions went into halftime trailing 34-31, and were able to open the fourth with a one point lead. With three and a half minutes remaining in the game, they were down 52-51 when freshman forward Ashley Hunt scored on a strong take to the basket to give the Lions the lead. After a couple of stops on the defensive end, Hunt converted on another layup to give RVCC the lead for good. Hunt was able to hit free throws in the final minute to seal the Lions win.

Freshman guard Megan Mack led the scoring for RVCC with 24 points. Hunt finished with 23 points and was efficient at the free throw line going 10-12, and 12 of her points came in the fourth quarter. The leading rebounder was sophomore forward Courtney Price who finished with 11. Sophomore guard Lauren Ferretti grabbed eight rebounds and added five assists, and freshman forward Mariana Munoz also totaled eight rebounds.

With the victory the Lions are now 7-11 on the season, and next up is an away game at Lackawanna College Thursday, February 9th at 5pm.
