RVCC Wins in Walk-Off Fashion!

North Branch, NJ- On Tuesday, April 11th the RVCC softball team had their home opener vs RCBC. The Lions split the doubleheader winning the first game 7-6 in extra innings and lost the second 7-3.
In game one, the Lions started off hot scoring 3 runs in the first inning but they gave up 2 runs on the other side making it 3-2. The Lions scored again bottom of the 2nd making the score 4-2. RCBC then scored one in the 3rd and two in the 4th giving them the lead 5-4. The Lions scored bottom of the 5th to tie it up 5-5 making it an exciting back and forth game. Going into the 7th inning the score remained tied up 5-5 and neither team was able to score. RVCC and RCBC headed into extra innings and RCBC scored one run in the 8th putting the pressure on RVCC to score. Sophomore Megan Mack started the inning on second base. First up to bat was freshman Sophia Leone who grounded out but moved the runner to third base. Next up was Sophomore Chessie Tomari, she laid down a perfect bunt and Mack scored by an error thrown to the plate. Tomari took off to second base where there was another error thrown to second, she then took off to third base, rounded third base to head home and beat the throw giving Tomari the game winning run!
Sophmore pitcher Amanda Hansen had a solid game pitching all eight innings and earned her first win of the season. 
In game two, both teams had a scoreless first two innings and then both scored two runs in the 3rd inning. RCBC kept their momentum going scoring two each in the 4th and 5th inning while RVCC was scoreless those innings. Unfortunately the Lions couldn't make a comeback and fell to RCBC in second doubleheader game. 
The RVCC softball team is now 1-5 on the season. Next up is Lackawanna away on Thursday, April 12th for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30PM.
