Men's Soccer Tops Brookdale In OT

Manalapan, NJ - Raritan Valley defeated conference foe Brookdale in a 3-2 overtime thriller! After a resilient RV defense waded through early pressure the men took hold of the game with stylish passing control. It was Sophomore, Khari Shepherd, who broke the deadlock pushing through injury to slot home off Freshman Chris Alvarado's through pass. Shepherd was again involved when freshman, and Man of the Match, Nicolas DiBetta stepped out of midfield to combine with the forward to make it 2-0 with his well-placed shot. Brookdale turned up the pressure and scored two goals to bring them level off RV mistakes. The Lions had a chance to take the lead before overtime, but could not find the back of the net.

Going to the bench in overtime Coach Mark Malchow turned to his eager freshmen players. With only one Sophomore on the field in overtime the Lions came roaring back to score after Boluwatife Sanya's skilled run and cut-back pass to Freshman Chris Alvarado whose sure finish sealed the game. The RV Pride came streaming off the bench to celebrate a hard-fought win.

Raritan Valley moves to 1-0 on the year while Brookdale falls to 0-1. The Lions will resume action this Saturday as they host the Monroe College Express at 2 P.M.
