Ocean blanks Raritan Valley, 4-0

North Branch, NJ -- Ocean County College rolled to a comfortable 4-0 win over RVCC in Toms River.  Four first half goals did all the damage, the Golden Lions were unable to find a response and fall to 2-6-2 for the season.

OCC's first goal came by way of a re-directed free kick.  A foul at the top of the RVCC penalty area looked to be covered by Ryan Hamblin but Adrian Vinveza's shot banged off Tony Chaparro and spun back across goal and into the empty net in the 13th minute.  Two minutes later, the Vikings doubled their lead when Ryan Hamblin came for a ball he wouldn't get, Sean Moore beat him to it to make it 2-0.  Ocean would tack on two more goals late in the first half.  A Hamblin miskicked restart was intercepted deep in the Golden Lions own half leading to a 1v1 finish in the 36th minute and three minutes later, Ocean would add their 4th to round out the scoring.

With the game out of reach, the Lions possessed and moved the ball much better in the 2nd half but created few scoring chances.  Ryan Lauder produced two strong saves and was credited with three for the afternoon.  RVCC managed only 4 shots on goal.

"We knew this one was going to be hard" added Head Coach Gerry Montague.  "We had a key player on a red card, were missing a few who had exams, and had to drop a couple from the team for disciplinary reasons.  It left us with a small squad and no depth against a good team.  I thought we played a good 2nd half, we moved the ball well and a couple of guys stood out today.  We have an early match on Saturday so our focus is on building off the 2nd half performance and doing things better in that match".

RVCC (2-6-2) hosts Harrisburg Area Community College (6-4-1) on Saturday, October 11th in the annual Pink Game which is part of a men's & women's soccer doubleheader.
