Raritan Valley Holds off Mercer in Overtime

Branchburg, NJ-RVCC holds off Mercer CC in overtime on Saturday. The game saw fast-paced action early on as with Raritan Valley's Alif Bass makes a two-pointer, giving the Lions the first points of the day. Exciting plays occurred all day including four three-pointers from Damon Strand, who finished with 27 points and an flashy passes from Bass who finished with a team high six assists.  Tight defense and a successful rebounding helped RVCC prevail.  Mercer led late in the second half, but Raritan fought back with clutch free throw shooting and great time management. 

 

Mercer also led at half time 41-38, despite Strands 12 first half point. with twelve points. Mercer came out strong with in the 2nd half, growing their lead to 10 points., but the Lions continued to fight back, trading baskets with Mercer and keeping the game within reach. Until the closing seconds when Eli White made an exciting and crowd-cheering two-pointer to tie the score at the score at the buzzer and forcing the game into overtime!

  

Overtime continued the back and forth theme of the day, with Strand hitting a crucial three-pointer tying the game at 85. Travon Blount hit a pivotal bucket, giving Raritan the lead in overtime that they would not relinquish on their way to a thrilling Region XIX victory.

 

Raritan's basketball team showcased determination and skill, securing a well-deserved triumph in an intense matchup against Mercer.
