Lions Season Opener at Sullivan Classic

Loch Sheldrake, NY - The RVCC Men's Basketball team started off their season with a weekend Classic hosted by SUNY Sullivan this past Saturday and Sunday.

In their first match up of the weekend the Lions played Erie at 3:00PM on Saturday, November 3rd. The Lions had a back and forth first half trailing just 43-38 at halftime with plenty of game left.

Freshman Justin Davis from Jersey City, NJ had an outstanding debut with the Lions and was 9-26 from the field goal and 4-8 from the 3PT mark making that the team high of 27PTS, he also earned himself a team high of 7 rebounds. One more Lion had a 20+ point game which was freshman guard Christion Dejean also from Jersey City,NJ he was 6-19 in field goal range and 4-8 from the 3PT mark totaling 22 points and a team high of 7 assist.

7 out of the 8 players all scored 5+ points making it a team effort to the 90 total points. Freshman guard Michael Delsantro had a solid debut off the bench earning himself 14 PTS. The Lions unfortunately fell short in the end with as final score of 103-90.

The Lions returned the next day to take on Sullivan for a 5 P.M. tip off. The game got off to a great start for RVCC and they were up 46-45 at the half. However, the Lions struggled offensively after that allowing Sullivan to score 53 in the second half while the Lions only had 40. Davis and Delsantro reached double figures again, 29 for Davis and 15 for Delsantro. Freshman guard Kevin Scanlan contributed 18 points. Defensively Davis dominated finishing with 15 rebounds, 11 were offensive. Dejean had a team high in assist for the second game in a row earning 7.

The Lions drop to 0-2 on the season but will look to bounce back this Saturday as they travel to Bucks County Community College for a 2 P.M. tip off.
