Manor Tops RV In Close One

Jenkintown, PA-- On Saturday, February 4th the RVCC men's basketball team traveled to Manor College and lost a close game by a final score of 63-61. The Lions opened the game with a 12-5 lead, yet Manor was able to set the tone in the rest of the first half as they took a 29-23 lead into the locker room. The second half was a back and forth battle, as no team held a lead bigger than five points. With three minutes remaining, sophomore guard Zaire Robinson hit a layup on a strong take to the rim to tie the game at 58-58. Manor then scored on back to back possessions and was up 63-58 with 15 seconds left when RVCC freshman guard Kevin Saylor made a layup and got fouled for the three point play. On the other end, Manor missed both free throws, then Saylor grabbed the rebound and heaved it across the court to Robinson who had a good look from three for the win but could not connect.

Saylor led the scoring for the Lions, as he scored 24 points on 9-16 shooting from the field. Robinson added 11 points and five assists, and freshman forward Ron Washington had a team high nine rebounds to go with nine points.

With the loss the Lions fall to 13-7 on the season, and next up is an away game at Sussex County Community College Tuesday, February 7th at 7pm.
