Lions Clinch Playoff Berth With Win Over Morris

Randolph, NJ-- The RVCC men's basketball team defeated County College of Morris Thursday night by a final score of 82-58. The Lions came out of the gate strong, and jumped out to a 22-10 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Strong defense as well as effective and unselfish offense keyed the Lions to a 15-3 run to close out the first half to take the 39-19 lead into the locker room. RVCC kept the momentum going in the second half, and was able to secure the win.

Freshman forward Ron Washington had a monster game, as he scored a team high 19 points and grabbed an impressive 18 rebounds. Freshman guard Kenyan Goodson played highly efficient basketball, as he finished with 17 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Kevin Saylor added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists while sophomore forward Sam Pierre chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds. Pierre was perfect from the free throw line as he went 7-7.

The Lions went 28-56 (50%) from the field, and finished with 22 assists. They were able to win the battle in the paint, as they outscored Morris 42-14. With the win RVCC improves to 13-6 including   7-3 in Region XIX play. This win also clinched a playoff berth, which makes it four consecutive seasons for the Lions in the Region XIX playoffs.
