RVCC Falls to Monroe in Overtime

North Branch, NJ-- On Sunday, December 4th the RVCC men's basketball team lost a hard fought and exciting game against Monroe Community College 87-84 in overtime. It was a back and forth battle the whole game, as there were 11 ties and 11 lead changes. Monroe took a slim 38-35 margin into the locker room, and the battle continued in the second half. With 13:42 remaining in the game Monroe took a 51-43 lead, however the Lions countered with a 12-2 run by way of two big three pointers from sophomore guard Zaire Robinson. Down the stretch the seesaw game continued, as Monroe missed a potential game winning jumper at the end of regulation. 

In overtime, the Lions found themselves trailing 84-81 with under two minutes left and Robinson found sophomore forward Jayce Beasley for the three pointer to tie it up. Monroe hit three free throws over two possessions to take the 87-84 lead, and the Lions could not tie it up to force another overtime. 

Leading the scoring for the Lions was Robinson, who had a big day with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. Beasley also played solid basketball as he scored 19 points and shot 8-15 from the floor. Contributing off of the bench was sophomore forward Jawan Robinson with 15 points and five rebounds. 

With the loss the Lions fall to 5-4, and next up is an away game Tuesday night against Johnson College at 7pm.
