Baseball Annihilates Union County College

North Branch, NJ - On Wednesday April 3rd the Lions hosted the Owls from Union County College. In what started as a close game turned out to be a lopsided affair as the Lions put up a season high in runs in route to a 26-11 drubbing of the Owls. The win moves RVCC to 4-10 on the season and 1-5 in Region XIX play.

Scott Ducey started on the hump for the Lions and passed off the ball to Jason Cuba in the 5th inning with the score tied 10-10. Although Cuba only allowed 1 run after his entrance, it was the RV bats that got the job done as they went on to outscore Union 14-1 with Cuba on the mound. While Cuba earned the win with his arm, he also got it done from the plate as well. Cuba, Sal Assante, Andrew Grasso, Paul Hamilton, Joseph DeRosa, and Anthony Hartmann crossed the plate for the Lions 3 times a piece. Ryan Galpin, Christopher Lombardi, and Anthony Carotenuto all had 2 runs scored for RVCC. Andrew Grasso has continued to light it up offensively as he finished with a triple, a double, and a team high 6 RBI's. Hamilton and Galpin each had 2 doubles and Lombardi had one as well.

Although RVCC and Union County College are only separted by a mere 15 miles, this was the first meeting between the two opponents since the 2015 season. In the double header at Union four years ago the Owls took the first game 6-3 and the Lions won the second 7-6. The Lions return to action this Saturday as they travel down to Mercer County Community College for a double header against the league leading Vikings. The Lions will then head south on the Garden State Parkway to take on Brookdale Community College on Sunday.
