Baseball Splits With Bergen

Paramus, NJ-- The RVCC baseball team split the doubleheader with Bergen Community College on Monday. Game one the Lions fell 11-2, yet bounced back to take game two by a final score of 7-6.

In game one, the Lions scored two runs in the first inning. Freshman outfielder Jack Peterson knocked in a run with an RBI groundout, then freshman infielder Luis Cruz scored on an error, however RVCC was unable to hold the early lead. Freshman righty Esterlin Ayala came on in relief and pitched two innings allowing only one run and one hit.

In game two, the Lions were trailing 3-1 when they pushed five runs across in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore outfielder Kevin Jessourian knocked in two runs with an RBI double. Two batters later, Ayala knocked one in with an RBI single. Freshman infielder Kendrick Morales then scored two with an RBI double to make it 6-3 RVCC. In the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded, freshman outfielder Trevor Sanchez worked a walk to give the Lions the 7-5 lead. Freshman lefty Adalberto Colon Jr. was the winning pitcher, as he went seven innings and struck out six batters. Jessourian finished the day going 2-4 with three RBIs while Ayala went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
