Lions Fall to Valley Forge

North Branch, NJ-- The RVCC baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader Sunday against Valley Forge Military College. Game one finished by a final score of 5-4, and game two by a final score of 3-2. 

In game one, the Lions found themselves trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when they pushed across two runs. Freshman outfielder Jack Peterson scored on an error, then freshman infielder Esterlin Ayala knocked in a run with an RBI double. The Lions started a rally in the bottom of the seventh down 5-2, as freshman infielder Andrew Pollara knocked in two runs with an RBI single, however the Lions were unable to tie the game up. 

Ayala led the Lion bats as he went 2-3 with two doubles, one RBI and a run scored. Freshman righty Cristofer Gonzalez got the loss as he went four innings and only allowed three hits and one earned run. Freshman righty Ryan Galpin threw three solid innings in relief, as he allowed only two hits and one earned run.

In game two, the Lions struck first as freshman outfielder Adalberto Colon Jr singled in freshman catcher Joseph Derosa. Valley Forge was able to claim a 3-1 lead, and Peterson knocked in Colon Jr. with an RBI sacrifice fly. 

Freshman righty Trevor Sanchez was the losing pitcher, however had a solid start. In four innings he only surrendered two hits, one earned run, and struck out four. Ayala pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and allowed three hits.
