Lions Split With Montgomery

Blue Bell, PA-- The RVCC baseball team split a doubleheader against Montgomery County Community College Saturday. The Lions took game one by a final score of 11-5, and dropped game two by a final score of 11-8. 

In game one, the Lions were trailing 2-1 when they took the lead for good with a four run fourth inning. Freshman catcher Jostan Tejeda got the offense going with an RBI single. Two batters later, freshman outfielder Adalberto Colon Jr. knocked in two runs with a single to center to give RVCC the 4-2 lead. Freshman shortstop Luis Cruz tacked on one run with an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-2. In the top of the 5th, freshman infielder Kendrick Morales drove in two runs to make it 7-3 RVCC. The Lions were able to add four runs in the top of the seventh, as Tejada knocked in two with a double, and sophomore outfielder Carlos Gomez then made it 10-3 with an RBI single. Freshman infielder Andrew Pollara made it 11-3 with an RBI single, and the Lions held onto the victory.

Gomez had a solid day at the plate, as he went 3-5 with two RBIs. Morales went 3-4 with two RBIs and a double, while Tejada went 2-4 with three RBIs and a double. Freshman outfielder Trevor Sanchez collected two hits as he went 2-3 with a double. Cruz also collected two hits as he went 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and Colon Jr. went 1-4 with two RBIs. The winning pitcher was freshman Matt Feaster, as he came on in relief and went 3.1 innings and allowed no earned runs and only two hits. 

In game two, the Lions were trailing 3-2 when they put up three runs in the top of the third. Morales knocked in Cruz with an RBI single, then freshman outfielder Andrew Tackett ripped an RBI double to make it 5-4 Montgomery. Pollara followed that up as he knocked Tackett in with an RBI double to make it 5-3 Lions. The Lions were unable to hold onto the lead, as Montgomery scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Gomez, Cruz, and Morales each led the Lions' bats with two hits and two RBIs each. Freshman Dylan Forbes started the game and went 3.2 innings and allowed three earned runs and five hits. The losing pitcher was freshman Esterlin Ayala, as he went 2.1 innings and allowed six earned runs.
