Lions Drop a Pair to Mercer

West Windsor Township, NJ- The RVCC baseball team lost in both games of the doubleheader against nationally ranked 5th Mercer County Community College on Sunday.

In game one, Mercer County Community College took an early lead in the second inning. The Lions were able to tie it up in the top of the third when freshman outfielder Andrew Tackett hit a solo home run over the left field fence. Mercer was able to push one across in the bottom of the third, and hold onto the lead for good. For the Lions, freshman right handed pitcher Trevor Sanchez took the loss as he went 4.2 innings and allowed six earned runs while striking out four. Freshman right handed pitcher Kendrick Morales came on in relief and went 1.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. At the plate, Tackett, Morales, freshman outfielder Carlos Gomez, and freshman infielder Esterlin Ayala each collected one hit.

In game two, Mercer jumped out to an early lead by way of three runs in the first inning, and three runs in the second. In the third inning the Lions got on the board when freshman outfielder Jack Peterson knocked in freshman outfielder Adalberto Colon Jr. on a fielder's choice. RVCC was able to put runs up on the board, however could not keep pace with the potent Mercer bats. The Lions finished with seven hits and eight runs. Gomez went 2-2 with two RBIs, while Ayala went 1-2 with two RBIs. Peterson finished the game going 1-3 with two RBIs, while freshman utility man Andrew Pollara went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman right handed pitcher Cristofer Gonzalez took the loss. 

Next up for RVCC is a home game on Tuesday April 4th against Ocean County College beginning at 3:30pm.
