Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Del Tech

The RVCC baseball team split the doubleheader against Del Tech Sunday. Game one was won by a final score of 10-8, and game two Del Tech took by a final score of 11-0.

In game one, leadoff hitter and freshman outfielder Nick Cuba led the charge with four hits out of five at bats. RVCC found themselves holding a slim 2-1 lead until they struck for six runs in the fourth inning. Sophomore infielder Christopher Lyons laced a two run single to extend the lead to 5-1. Freshman shortstop Sean Mead stole home a few batters later, then freshman infielder Christian Madera ripped a two RBI double. Sophomore pitcher Billy Larkin earned the win going 4.2 innings and allowing six earned runs while only walking three batters. Sophomore Kyle Dotey was able to hold off the Del Tech rally to preserve the victory and get the save. 

In game two, Del Tech struck early as they put up three runs in the second and four in the third. The Golden Lions bats struggled to generate offense, as they only had five hits. Dotey went 2-4 with a double, and freshman pitcher Kevin Jessourian was effictive in relief going 3.1 innings and only allowing one earned run on four hits.

Next up is a home game Tuesday the 19th against Mercer County Community College at 3pm.
