Coach Roman's lifelong passion for baseball and softball began at Automotive High School in Brooklyn, NY, where he excelled as a Varsity Baseball Player. He continued his baseball journey at Kingsborough Community College in NY, playing college baseball, and went on to showcase his skills in the Guam Major Leagues as a player for the All Armed Forces Pirates. In addition, he played Semi-Pro baseball in Daytona Beach, FL, and became a prominent figure in the NY Crew Men's Fast Pitch League, earning multiple accolades including six MVP titles, three Gold Glove awards, and two League Pitcher of the Year honors.

 

After his successful playing career, Coach Roman transitioned into coaching, making a significant impact at various levels of the game. From coaching Little League teams in Brooklyn, NY, to serving as the Head Softball Coach at Mary Help of Christians Academy in N. Haledon, NJ, Coach Roman has demonstrated his dedication and expertise in developing players' skills and fostering a winning team culture.

 

Coach Roman's coaching journey also includes valuable experiences as an umpire in both baseball and softball, contributing to his comprehensive understanding of the game. His extensive coaching and umpiring background, along with his 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy and retirement as a New Jersey Police Officer, have instilled in him a strong work ethic, leadership qualities, and a commitment to excellence.

 

In recent years, Coach Roman has achieved remarkable success in the coaching realm, most notably as the Head Softball Coach at Sparta High School. Under his guidance, the team witnessed a remarkable turnaround, increasing their win total from 6 to an impressive 32 wins with only 16 losses. Furthermore, he led the team to secure the 2021 NJAC American League Championship, a feat not accomplished in five years, and guided them to become runners-up in the 2022 Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex County Championship game, a first in six years.

 

As Coach Roman takes the helm of the RVCC softball program, he brings a winning mentality, a commitment to player development, and a passion for the game. His track record of success and his ability to inspire and motivate athletes make him the ideal candidate to lead and shape the future of the RVCC softball team.
